What Is Pool Rummy: A Beginner’s Guide
Rummy, also referred to as Paplu or Cherokee, has been played in India for ages. It has been a vital part of the Indian culture and is readily played among friends and families. Indian Rummy has three most commonly played variants: Points Rummy, Pool Rummy, and Deals Rummy.
Pool Rummy
Pool Rummy is one of the most popular and commonly played variants of Online Rummy. It is an extended form of Points Rummy, where the players have to play a series of games so that their opponents cross the magic number. It is a multi-deal game that is played by at least 2 players and at most 6 players at once. For 2 players, one card deck is used, and for more than 2 players, two card decks are used to play the Pool Rummy game. Players can play Pool Rummy with real money as well as practice chips on Rummy Passion.
Just like in Points Rummy and Deals Rummy, players have to make valid sets and sequences of 13 cards, of which at least one should be a pure sequence. It is important to declare the cards with valid sets and sequences before the opponents in order to ace the game.
Players can also rejoin the Pool Rummy game when they get eliminated from it. A buy-in amount is deducted from the player’s wallet if they join again. At the time of rejoining, the initial score of the player will be the highest above 1 point among those players who are not eliminated from the pool. Players can rejoin the game as long as there is enough balance in the player’s account.
Types of Pool Rummy
Pool Rummy has two commonly played variants, which are 101 and 201.
In both forms of Pool Rummy, it is important to note that players have to keep their points at a minimum or below the limit to win the prize pool. If a player feels that their cards are not good enough to defeat the opponents, they can drop the game at any time.
101 Pool Rummy
In 101 Pool Rummy, players have to push their opponents beyond 100 points to win the game.
- Drop Strategy in 101 Pool Rummy: A player can make a drop at the initial stage, where they can collect 20 points in 101 Pool Rummy. Players can also make a drop in the middle of the game and get 40 points for it.
- Rebuy in 101 Pool Rummy: If players get eliminated from the game, they are allowed to rejoin the game before the next deal begins. The highest score must be less than 79 points in 101 Pool Rummy.
201 Pool Rummy
201 Pool Rummy is played just like 101 Pool Rummy, where players keep on playing until one player’s score hits the limit, which is 201. The players have to push the opponents to cross the number on the mark before they do.
- Drop Strategy in 201 Pool Rummy: Just like 101 Pool Rummy, players can make an initial drop, where they can get 25 points in 201 Pool Rummy and 50 points as the mid-drop in the game.
- Rebuy in 201 Pool Rummy: In 201 Pool Rummy, players can rejoin the game if they get eliminated from the game, with the condition that points must be less than 174.
Every time a player rejoins, a buy-in amount is deducted from the player’s wallet directly. When a player rejoins a game, the starting score will be 1 point above the highest score among the players who are still playing.
For example, If three players are not eliminated and have respective scores of 72 points, 45 points & 56 points in a 101 pool game, then the player who is rejoining will have a starting score of 73 points.
How are Points Calculated in Pool Rummy?
While calculating the points in 101 or 201 Pool Rummy, there is no value for suits in the point value of cards. Face cards (Ace, King, Queen, and Jack) have a fixed value of 10 points each. Cards from 2-10 have their respective point values. The value of the joker is zero in the game. If you win the game, the points will be 0 and if you lose the game, points will be calculated as per the groups.
Every game you lose adds points to your overall score. It is preferable to keep your points in each game to a bare minimum so that if you lose, the difference in your overall score isn’t very significant.
